Heavy rain and flooding across the state on Sunday prompted Gov. Jay Nixon to declare a state of emergency, and as of Sunday night the deluge had led to more than 430 flood-related road closings in Missouri, including Interstate 70 in St. Charles County.
The flooding has been blamed for at least eight fatalities.
With rain continuing Monday, rivers in the state are expected to hit near-record levels this week.
Nixon cautioned that people should avoid water-covered roads and forego travel if at all possible, and state transportation officials said commuters may need to plot alternate routes for their Monday commutes.
