Macy’s closing St. Louis-area call center, shuttering Columbia store

Following weak holiday sales, Macy’s announced it is closing a Bridgeton, Mo. call center with 750 employees, as well as a store in Columbia, Mo.

The Columbia store will close in early spring — one of 36 Macy’s stores shutting its doors, according to a news release posted on the company’s website on Wednesday.

The job losses at the Bridgeton call center, also slated for this spring, are among up to 4,800 job cuts the Cincinnati-based company outlined in the release. Once the call center closes, Macy’s will still maintain a Bridgeton presence: 40 employees at corporate offices there and 75 workers at an adjoining distribution center.
