Tony Berg, previously the vice president for advertising at the Kansas City Star, has been named the publication’s new president and publisher. The Star’s parent company, the McClatchy Company, announced Berg’s promotion Wednesday in a press release.
The move fills a vacancy created by the September departure of Mi-Ai Parrish, who took over as president and publisher of Republic Media in Phoenix.
Berg, 38, has worked for publications owned by Sacramento-based McClatchy since 2012, when he joined the Wichita Eagle in Wichita, Kan., as vice president for advertising, according to the release. He moved to the Star in 2015.
He is a Kansas native and a University of Kansas graduate.
“Tony has a strong record of digital and print sales success at our company,” Patrick Talamantes, McClatchy president and CEO, said in the release. “His leadership, teamwork and passion for the Kansas City community will serve The Star, our readers and our advertisers well.”
