MU journalism school, VML team up for new social media course

The University of Missouri School of Journalism and Kansas City-based marketing agency VML are partnering on a new program for MU students interested in working in social media, the school announced in a press release.

The school and agency worked together to create a new course, Advanced Social Media Strategies, in which students will plan and implement content for the MU School of Journalism’s social media accounts.

The class is the latest incarnation of the journalism school’s “Missouri Method” of learning by doing, but the extent of VML’s involvement in developing the new course makes it particularly unique, according to the release.

Professor Suzette Heiman will teach the new course, assisted by two co-instructors from VML, director of social and emerging media Chad Martin and supervisor of social strategy Laura Brand.
