UM System board names presidential search committee co-chairs

The University of Missouri System board of curators on Monday named an attorney and a physician as co-chairs of its presidential search committee.

Cheryl D.S. Walker and Dr. James H. Whitaker will oversee the committee charged with finding a new president for the four-campus UM System.

Walker was on the Board of Curators from 2003 to 2009, including a one-year stint as chairwoman. She works at Bryan Cave LLP.

Whitaker is a member of the Missouri 100, a group of prominent UM System backers, and serves on the MU Health Care Advisory Board. He works as an orthopedic surgeon in Overland Park, Kan.

The curators said in a news release that the committee will host four forums on UM System campuses and they will be live-streamed online.

The curators expect to discuss feedback from the forums and to approve a statement of presidential qualifications when they meet again in mid-April, according to a draft timeline for the search process. They plan to formally advertise the position at that time.
