Kansas City’s oldest brewpub to shut down in May

Kansas City’s oldest brewpub, Waldo’s 75th Street Brewery, will be shutting down May 15 to make way for a new ramen restaurant.

The brewpub drew big crowds in its early years, and gross annual income was recently listed at $1.95 million. But a proliferation of similar offerings has reduced its novelty, according to Ed Nelson of 75th Street’s parent company, KC Hopps Ltd.

“There are hundreds of places serving great beer now,” he said. “People read about new ones in other states and they want to try them.”

The brewery’s next door neighbor, Summit Grill & Bar, will be taking over 75th Street’s building so that it can expand its current business and add a ramen restaurant.
