With a legislative last call looming in two weeks, the Missouri House handed big beer companies a victory Thursday.
Under Senate Bill 919, which now heads back to the Senate for further debate, beer companies and breweries would be able lease portable refrigerators to retailers as a way to promote their brands. It would also allow those same stores to sell beer in reusable containers, commonly known as growlers.
Supporters say it will give retailers more options to move their products. Opponents argue that big beer companies, such as Anheuser-Busch and Miller, would insist on their products being placed in the portable fridges at the expense of smaller craft brewers.
Lawmakers added the bill onto a wine industry bill. The amended bill now goes back to the Senate.
