CoxHealth will hire about 100 nurses from overseas, primarily from the Philippines, to keep up with growing demand for personnel, the Springfield-based health system announced in a press release.
Karen Kramer, CoxHealth’s chief nursing officer, said in the release that the U.S faces a shortage of nurses and recruiting from abroad is one way to fill the gap. This recruitment effort is in addition to hiring locally.
CoxHealth plans to hire most of the nurses from Philippines because English is one of the country’s official languages.
Many hospitals in the U.S have been hiring nurses from abroad, CoxHealth said. Because of this, organizations exist to help screen nurses from abroad, and CoxHealth plans to use their screening services.
