St. Louis ranks sixth on a new list of best cities in the country for Independence Day celebrations. The list, compiled by personal finance site WalletHub, orders cities by how well “they balance holiday cost and fun.”
Kansas City ranked 30 slots below St. Louis, at No. 36.
The list, which includes the 100 largest cities in the country, used three factors to determine cities’ rankings: entertainment and food, attractions and activities, and weather forecast. The three criteria were then calculated to produce a total out of 100 points.
The top five cities on the list were Seattle, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Washington and Portland.
St. Louis ranked fifth in attractions and activities, but it took a big hit for its Fourth of July forecast, which ranked 87th.
Kansas City earned its highest marks for food and entertainment, at No. 31. It earned its lowest score for weather, ranking 54th.
WalletHub also predicted that the national spending average for Fourth of July this year will increase by 7 percent over last year. Average household spending for the holiday will be around $370.75, WalletHub said.
