The sixth GlobalHack event will be the most lucrative yet, featuring $1 million in cash prizes. Organizers expect 2,500 participants for the hackathon, set to take place Oct. 21-23 at St. Louis University’s Chaifetz Arena, according to a press release.
The hack weekend will focus on building software to help the homeless community. St. Patrick Center, a St. Louis-based nonprofit that serves people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless, is partnering with GlobalHack on the event.
Specifics of the project will not be announced until Oct. 21, so as to ensure a level playing field for all participants.
Of the $1 million prize pool, $250,000 will be set aside to keep selected participants engaged with St. Patrick Center after the event and help them bring the best project to market.
Winning projects will be made freely available for anyone to use, and for software developers to improve upon.
