Uber use soars among business travelers

A new analysis of more than 10 million business travel receipts from expense management company Certify shows that ride-sharing companies are the big winner when it comes to business travelers, accounting for 49 percent of all ground transportation among the group.

The analysis reports that Uber rides in the second quarter of 2016 accounted for 72.53 percent of hailed ground transportation receipts, leaping from a 25.96 percent share in the second quarter of 2014.

Lyft use also grew, though at a much smaller share than Uber, according to the Certify report. It pegged Lyft’s share of the hailed trips at 5.2 percent in the most recent quarter, compared to 0.34 percent two years earlier.

Meanwhile, business travelers’ use of taxis plummeted from a 73.70 percent share to 22.27 percent of hailed ground transportation receipts.

The growth of ride-hailing services also appeared to depress car rentals, with rentals shrinking by 18 percentage points.
