Missouri retailers readying for sales tax holiday weekend

Missouri’s three-day sales tax holiday on clothing, school supplies and computers is this weekend, and retailers are readying for a rush of shoppers.

The sales tax holiday temporarily exempts the state’s portion of the tax rate — 4.225 percent — from Aug. 5-7 on certain back-to-school items.

The savings are even greater in some municipalities as some cities also make their local sales taxes exempt. The Missouri Department of Revenue lists participating jurisdictions on its website.

Multple cities and counties have opted out, however, so only the state sales tax is exempt in those areas, not the local sales tax.
