Large contract with Express Scripts keeps Alphapointe growing

Kansas City-based Alphapointe signed a seven-year deal to produce prescription bottles for Express Scripts Holding Co., adding to its ongoing growth.

Nonprofit Alphapointe is the nation’s third-largest employer of blind and visually impaired people, in addition to providing many vision-related and rehabilitation services. The nonprofit has had a contract producing prescription bottles for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for more than 20 years. Now, it’s adding a private-sector contract with St. Louis-based Express Scripts, a leading pharmacy benefit management service provider that posted $2.48 billion in 2015 earnings.

To meet the needs of the contract, Alphapointe has invested about $1.5 million in new blow molding equipment and tooling. Alphapointe will also hire at least three more employees to help with the operation.
