UPS to hire 2,000 in KC, St. Louis to help with holiday shipping

United Parcel Service Inc. will hire more than 2,000 people in the Kansas City and St. Louis areas to help with holiday shipping, the company said Wednesday.

In St. Louis, UPS will hire more than 900, roughly the same number it did last year, including seasonal and permanent package handlers, drivers and driver-helpers.

In the Kansas City area, where the shipping company has about 2,800 full-time employees, UPS will hire 1,180 part-time workers.

The company says it’s hiring about 95,000 people nationwide for the holiday shipping season and that more than 37 percent of those hired in recent years for seasonal package-handler jobs stayed with the company on a permanent basis after the holidays.
