Columbia Daily Tribune sold to GateHouse Media

The Tribune Publishing Co., including the Columbia Daily Tribune, has been purchased by newspaper chain GateHouse Media.

The sale, which includes the Tribune, the commercial printing division and Tribune Targeted, will be finalized on or about Oct. 1. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The Columbia Tribune was founded in 1901 and purchased by the Waters family in 1905. Management said that independent ownership was no longer possible with the costs of operation.

Pittsford, New York-based GateHouse Media has 14 daily newspapers in Missouri, including the Boonville Daily News, the Moberly Monitor-Index and the Mexico Ledger. Columbia will be the largest Missouri city where GateHouse owns a daily newspaper.
