Debate beers on tap as St. Louis prepares for presidential candidates

As St. Louis prepares to host the next presidential debate at Washington University on Oct. 9, the city’s breweries are gearing up with debate-themed beers.

As of Friday, Schlafly Beer was pouring Potus (aka President of the United States) at its Tap Room downtown and Bottleworks brewery in Maplewood. The limited release American lager also is available at a few other bars and restaurants.

Anheuser-Busch, which has its U.S. headquarters based in St. Louis, also is brewing up debate-themed beer. Lilly’s Lager, a special release beer debuted for the debate, will be served at a biergarten outside Washington University for debate attendees next Sunday. It’s also available at the brewery south of downtown until supplies run out.
