The Climate Corp., a subsidiary of Creve Coeur-based Monsanto, has acquired European farm management software company VitalFields. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In a release, The Climate Corp. said the purchase will strengthen its efforts to improve digital technology for farmers. VitalFields was founded in 2011 and is based in Tallinn, Estonia. Its systems help farmers plan, manage and analyze field activities along with simplified tracking and reporting of crop inputs to ensure compliance with European Union environmental standards. Following the deal, the VitalFields team will continue operating in Europe.
VitalFields software will continue to be sold in Europe and The Climate Corp. has discussed expansion plans throughout the continent for the firm. Monsanto’s venture capital segment, Monsanto Growth Ventures, was an early investor in VitalFields after it showed promise in developing agriculture productivity.
