Kansas City’s Price Chopper on Wednesday denied reports of it being acquired by the supermarket chain Albertsons Companies.
The confusion surfaced because a grocery store chain based in Schenectady, N.Y., that also operates under the Price Chopper name is reportedly in talks to be acquired by Albertsons.
“All Kansas City-based Price Choppers will remain under current local ownership,” the grocer said in a news release. “There are no current plans, nor intentions, to sell any stores.”
Price Chopper’s 51 Kansas City-area stores are locally owned by the Ball, Cosentino, McKeever and Queen families.
