A doctor based in the Kansas City area will open a new primary care clinic in Wyandotte County, Kansas, with a unique monthly subscription payment model. The goal, Dr. Allison Edwards said, is to provide transparency with upfront information about costs.
The clinic covers all of a patient’s primary care visits through a $55 monthly fee ($15 a month for patients 26 and younger) with no co-pay. Edwards says that she expects this model will not only serve uninsured patients, but also those with high-deductible plans where the cost of an office visit may have jumped by $100.
The clinic will offer after-hours visits for a fee to save patients a trip to the ER or urgent care. Edwards also offers medications and basic testing to patients at wholesale prices; for example, Edwards said she could offer prescriptions on Walmart, Walgreens and Target’s $4 list for $1.
