Peabody Energy announced on Wednesday that it has extended its current lease at its world headquarters in downtown St. Louis at least through 2023.
The internal conversation about Peabody’s lease renewal has coincided with broader questions about the company’s future, as it prepares to file a plan of reorganization charting its course out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Company spokesperson Vic Svec said the extension not only demonstrates the company’s commitment to downtown St. Louis, but he also billed it as “a testament to the sustainability of Peabody,” as it emerges from bankruptcy.
Peabody currently occupies about seven floors of space and employs about 380 people at its St. Louis headquarters.
