Oklahoma Joe’s Bar-B-Cue is ramping up its franchising efforts, leaving some fans wondering what that means for award-winning Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que, formerly Oklahoma Joe’s Bar-B-Que.
The new iteration of Oklahoma Joe’s now has three locations in Oklahoma and one in the Washington, D.C. area. But there are plans to open more in the D.C. area, along with at least two in Orlando, Florida, and one in Lincoln, Nebraska. Joe’s Barbecue Group Inc. is now granting exclusive territory rights to experienced food service operators and investors who can develop multiple restaurant locations within three to five years.
It could create brand confusion, but Joe’s Kansas City co-owner Jeff Stehney chooses to embrace it, he says.
“If you turn it into a negative, there’s really not a win in that,” Stehney said. “If we embrace any of the confusion, we’re going to be better off, because you can’t fight it. It’s inevitable.”
And brand confusion won’t hurt either of the restaurant chains in the long run, he said.
