Kansas City restaurant group closes on another big purchase

KBP Foods LLC continues to gobble up restaurants. Last year, the Overland Park, Kansas-based restaurant group closed a deal involving 91 restaurants. Its latest acquisition is nearly the same size.

KBP closed last week on a deal for 85 KFC and Taco Bell restaurants in Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee and Ohio. The move is expected to bring nearly $100 million in additional revenue and raises KBP’s employee count to around 9,200, CEO Mike Kulp said.

With the acquisition, KBP now operates 449 KFC and Taco Bell restaurants across 20 states.

The company also plans to acquire additional locations later this year, which Kulp anticipates will add another $85 million to $90 million in revenue.

KBP ended 2016 with record revenue of $380.9 million, but Kulp expects to break that record in 2017.
