UM curators approve maximum in-state tuition hike

Students at all four University of Missouri System campuses will see in-state tuition jump 2.1 percent after the UM Board of Curators voted Wednesday to increase in-state tuition by the maximum amount allowed.

Out-of-state tuition rose for all four campuses as well. Tuition for nonresidents will rise 2.1 percent in Columbia, 3 percent at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla and 5 percent at both the St. Louis and Kansas City campuses.

Costs for graduate and professional programs as well as course fees will rise as the universities contend with a dip in state funds.

Some curators questioned the way MU handles supplemental fees, the extra costs meant to raise the costs of programs that are more expensive to teach.

A proposal to simplify these costs is expected to be seen by the curators in their October meeting.
