KC insurance business expands to St. Louis, plans new hires

Kansas City-based Thomas McGee LC has opened its first office in St. Louis and expects to add 15 employees there in the next 18 months.

Founded in 1910, Thomas McGee is an independent insurance agency that focuses on commercial and personal insurance lines. It has specialties in construction, manufacturing, worker’s compensation and third-party administration. The firm currently has about 80 employees.

The spark for opening a St. Louis office was the opportunity to bring in Dan Greco, an experienced third-party administrator who spent the last seven years at a Thomas McGee competitor in St. Louis called Corporate Claims Management Inc.

Dan Joyce, Thomas McGee’s managing partner, said the agency will remain focused only on third-party administration in St. Louis for the foreseeable future, because there is a significant opportunity in that region. The hiring in St. Louis, which will consist of adjusters and support staff, will occur during the next 18 months as the business line grows there. Greco is the director of the company’s St. Louis office.
