Enterprise CarShare is scaling back its retail programs in Boston, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, Salt Lake City and Washington D.C.
CarShare, a unit of Clayton-based Enterprise Holdings, allows customers to rent vehicles by the hour from dedicated parking spaces, without visiting branch locations.
Enterprise, the world’s largest rental car provider, has grown its car-sharing business in recent years through multiple acquisitions.
In an email to customers, a spokeswoman said that “consumer demand for retail car-sharing service in these six markets did not meet Enterprise’s expectations.”
The company says it will keep its regular operations in cities including St. Louis, Toronto, New York, Philadelphia and London.
