Hawthorn Bank plans to open a new banking center in downtown Columbia, occupying the first two floors of the Plaza 807 Office Building that’s currently under construction, the bank announced Friday.
The bank has signed an agreement for the space, Hawthorn Bank COO Kathleen Bruegenhemke said. Officials celebrated the future facility with an announcement Friday at Columbia’s Regional Economic Development Inc.
Plaza 807 will be a five-story building overlooking the Boone County Government Center Plaza. Construction is expected to be completed in 18 to 24 months.
The downtown Columbia office will be the 25th location in Missouri for Hawthorn Bank, which has locations throughout central, west and southwest Missouri.
The bank opened its first Columbia location on the city’s south side in 2007. Since entering the market, Hawthorn Bank has focused on serving the city’s small business community, Columbia market president Todd Hoien said.
“Our move to open a banking center downtown is both practical and symbolic,” Hoien said in a news release. “As our business has grown, we need to grow our staff to best serve our great customers. The second location will allow us to hire more business bankers and lenders, add personal banking staff, and expand our trust and wealth management services.”
