Anheuser-Busch InBev buys organic energy drink maker

Anheuser-Busch InBev said Thursday it will buy Hiball Inc., a San Francisco-based maker of organic energy drinks and carbonated juices and water.

Terms of the deal, expected to close in the third quarter, were not disclosed.

Hiball, founded in 2005, had retail sales of about $40 million over the past 12 months.

A-B, with its North American headquarters in St. Louis, said it plans to offer the company’s Hiball Energy drink and Alta Palla sparkling juices and waters to its wholesalers, and transition distribution of the brands to the A-B network “over time.”

Following the close of the acquisition, Hiball’s leadership team will continue to run the business.
