After Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield pulled out of the Affordable Care Act insurance marketplace in Boone County, Cigna stepped in to provide health insurance for the county.
It was unclear Monday when Cigna would start offering plans in the county or why the company stepped in.
That followed Anthem’s announcement on Friday that it would stop offering insurance plans in 2018 to Missourians in 16 counties and the city of St. Louis, leaving some in the state without insurance providers through the government-run exchange.
People who already have individual or family health plans, transitional policies, employer-sponsored insurance or Medicare will not be affected by the change, Anthem said.
The company didn’t release a figure regarding the number of people who will be impacted by the change.
