A subsidiary of Overland Park-based Compass Minerals on Tuesday announced a tentative agreement with a labor union that could end a week-long strike at a salt mine in Canada.

Sifto Canada Corp. reached the agreement on a three-year contract with the Communications, Energy and Paperworks Union Local 16-0, which represents workers at the mine in Goderich, Ontario. Union officials plan to push for a ratification vote in early September, Sifto said in a statement.
