Hundreds of Missouri organizations look for #GivingTuesday boost

Seventy-one percent of Americans plan to engage in charitable activity during the holiday season, either by donating money, items or time, or by supporting retailers that contribute to charitable causes, according to the National Retail Federation.

A big chunk of that charitable activity takes place on #GivingTuesday, a day billed by its creators as “a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.”

Established in 2012 and celebrated every year since on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday has grown into a global movement with non-profits all over the world participating in order to raise funds.

More than 1,000 Missouri organizations are listed on the website as participating, but a simple search on social media will even provide an extensive group of options for donating.

Many organizations set goals for #GivingTuesday, including De Smet Jesuit High School in St. Louis, which hopes to raise $100,000 in just one day on Tuesday.

Private companies are even getting in on the day, such as Continuity, a media production company in St. Louis that is having a giveaway of video production for nonprofits and small businesses.

So where does this leave you? Overwhelmed? Understandable. The #GivingTuesday website has a whole interactive list of organizations that participate. You can pick out any nonprofit you choose and more information will be right there to help you donate.
