Settlement Over E-book Price Fixing Means Cash Back to Consumers

Missouri consumers could take home as much as $1.1 million from a price-fixing settlement with three e-book publishers. Kansas consumers could get $628,000.

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt and 53 other attorneys general reached a $76.5 million settlement with publishers who allegedly conspired to raise the prices of electronic books. Hachette Book Group Inc., HarperCollins Publishers LLC and Simon & Schuster Inc. will pay $69 million to consumers and $7.5 million to states for fees and costs.
