Convergys laying off up to 319 at facility in St. Louis area

Convergys, a Cincinnati-based company that handles billing and customer service for other businesses, will lay off up to 319 employees at a call center in the St. Louis area at the end of April.

The cuts come as a result of a telecom customer ending a program that Convergys operated out its facility in Arnold.

A Covergys spokeswoman said the company will seek seasonal employment tied to a health care account for the affected employees.

In February 2017, Convergys announced plans for 175 layoffs at another St. Louis-area facility, in Hazelwood. The company now employs 340 people at the Hazelwood office; its Arnold headcount will be reduced to 210 after the cuts.
