Express Scripts to shutter distribution facility, lay off 456 employees

Express Scripts, the pharmacy benefits manager based in St. Louis County, plans to close a facility in Columbus, Ohio, and cut 456 jobs, according to a notice filed Tuesday.

News of the cuts comes one month after health insurer Cigna announced its plan to acquire Express Scripts, the largest pharmacy benefits manager, for $67 billion.

Cigna said at the time that it envisioned $600 million in administrative efficiencies from the deal, which prompted immediate concerns about job cuts.
