Food hall concept planned for downtown Springfield

Springfield is set to join Kansas City and St. Louis in welcoming a food hall to its local dining scene. Entrepreneurs Jim Wilson and Joshua Widner plan to open a food hall, called Blackwell Hall, in downtown Springfield by September.

Food halls, which are reminiscent of food courts but tend to offer more local and high-end options, have gained popularity nationwide in recent years.

In Springfield, Wilson and Widner plan to bring together around a dozen vendors in a 10,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by the Bistro Market, an upscale grocery store.

Rent for vendors will range from $2,100 to $6,000 per month, according to marketing materials for the facility.
