Black & Veatch has been selected by Electrify America, a division of Volkswagen, to install hundreds of electric vehicle charging stations across the U.S., the Overland Park, Kansas-based engineering firm announced Thursday.
Electrify America came out of Volkswagen’s settlement with the Justice Department after it was discovered that the German automaker was engineering cars to cheat emissions tests. As part of that settlement, Volkswagen agreed to invest $2 billion over 10 years in zero-emission vehicle infrastructure, including 2,000 chargers.
Black & Veatch is one of two firms selected for the project, which aims to have the stations built or under construction within a year.
