Warren Buffett, the billionaire chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, is scheduled to be in the Kansas City area on Tuesday to announce the opening of a Geico insurance service center expected to create 500 jobs over the next five years.
It will mark the largest job creation announcement by a company new to the Kansas City area in at least a year, according to Tim Cowden, president and CEO of the Kansas City Area Development Council.
Geico is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, the Omaha-based holding company run by Buffett.
The insurer plans to start hiring customer service and sales employees immediately for the facility in Lenexa, Kansas. The company invested at least $10 million in the 55,000-square-foot facility, according to a press release.
