Judge rules Missouri alcohol retailers can advertise deal prices

Alcohol advertisements in Missouri may begin to get more specific, following a court ruling that alcohol retailers can promote discounts and below-cost prices.

A U.S. Circuit Court judge ruled that two Missouri regulations and one statute violated the First Amendment by prohibiting or inhibiting truthful advertising.

Previously, vendors in the state couldn’t advertise specific prices or deals. Instead, they had to use generic terms like “happy hour.”

Also prohibited was alcohol wholesalers advertising on behalf of retailers, unless they mentioned multiple retailers and did so inconspicuously.
