BJC Healthcare cuts 113 IT jobs amid shift to new software

BJC Healthcare, the largest employer in the St. Louis area, laid off 113 individuals from its IT department.

Of the 113 terminated, 68 were employees and 45 were contractors. The layoffs, announced Wednesday, come after BJC implemented software from Epic Systems, which helps with management of electronic medical records.

The 15 hospitals under BJC’s umbrella employ nearly 31,000 individuals. 

The health care system said the layoffs were part of a restructuring of its staff to meet new priorities.
