Smith Seed Services has selected Lamar as the location for a new seed coating plant, where it plans to create 38 jobs, the Missouri Department of Economic Development announced Wednesday in a release.
Smith Seed Services, based in Halsey, Oregon, is a global wholesaler of grass seeds.
The company expects to break ground on the new facility this month, begin hiring in late 2018 and start operations in mid-2019.
“We look forward to a long and successful relationship with our Midwest customers, the City of Lamar and the state of Missouri,” Galen Troyer, general manager of Smith Seed Services, said in the release.
State and local officials hailed the announcement as a testament to the strength of the agricultural sector in Lamar and Missouri.
