Johnny Morris, family to convert Ozark mill for latest tourism property

Bass Pro Shops CEO Johnny Morris and his daughter, Megan Morris, are leading the conversion of a historic mill in Ozark into a tourist destination.

The Ozark Mill, which dates back to 1833, will be the cornerstone of the future Finley Farm. The 55-acre property will also include retail space selling locally grown food, a full-service restaurant and another bar and restaurant.

Plans for the redevelopment also call for workshop space, a chapel and a shop serving ice cream and coffee. A second phase of redevelopment could bring a boutique hotel.

This marks the latest in a string of tourism-related business plays for Johnny Morris. The billionaire founded and still runs the Bass Pro retail empire, but he also owns recreation and leisure properties like Big Cedar Lodge, Dogwood Canyon Nature Preserve and the Wonders of Wildlife Museum & Aquarium.

Megan Morris didn’t disclose the cost of the Ozark project. But Ozark City Manager Steve Childers said the development will receive tax abatement from the city for the first 25 years.

The restored Ozark Mill is expected to be completed by fall 2019, after which the doors will be open to the public.
