One of the Ozark’s busiest highways is growing up.
In December, U.S. 71 will become Interstate 49. The new status for western Missouri’s main north-south highway comes after more than $63-million in upgrades between Kansas City and Joplin.
“There is just something about going to an interstate status that people thinks it brings in more traffic, and traffic will pick up,” explained Mark Elliff, president of the Carthage Chamber of Commerce. “It brings in the possibility of new business, brings in the possibility of new companies looking to relocate close to an Interstate”.
