CVS Health is opening a new Northland facility, which is expected to hire 160 employees by the end of 2018, and eventually a total of 300 new employees.
The new, 762,000-square-foot facility will focus on distribution and logistics, and support over 500 CVS Pharmacy stores throughout the Midwest, according to the company.
Port KC approved tax incentives for the facility, among them a 22-year property tax exemption and a 10-year exemption on equipment. The company will also get a 90 percent property tax exemption for 10 years.
Some workers from Harley Davidson Inc. — which announced the closure of a Kansas City assembly plant — have applied for positions at the CVS facility, said Alicia Stephens, executive director of the Platte County Economic Development Council.
“There are some employer losses in the region and this just provides one opportunity for those workers to stay in the region,” Stephens said.
