A St. Louis trial court judge affirmed a $4.69 billion verdict against Johnson & Johnson in a case alleging the company’s talc-based products contain asbestos and caused 22 women to develop ovarian cancer.
On July 12, the jury found in favor of the women, six of whom have died. On Tuesday evening the jury’s decision was affirmed by Judge Rex Burlison of the Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis.
Johnson & Johnson continues to deny the allegations, and the company said it would pursue all appellate remedies in a statement Wednesday.
The company can now take up the cases with a Missouri appeals court.
Johnson & Johnson faces some 10,600 cases nationwide over talc products, according to an August regulatory filing.
