Scooter startup Bird asked to leave after arrival on MU campus

Add the University of Missouri to the list of places in the state that have resisted the initial arrival of electric scooters.

Bird, the Santa Monica, California-based scooter-sharing startup, popped up in Columbia this week, but on Thursday MU asked the company to take its scooters off campus.

Bird, which made landfall in both Kansas City and St. Louis without official operating permits earlier this summer, came to Columbia as part of a pop-up tour the startup is doing at 150 colleges and universities.

A meeting is planned for Friday between the university and the company to determine Bird’s future on the campus.
