Boeing wins $805 million contract for refueling drones

Boeing beat out two other bidders for an $805 million U.S. Navy contract to design, deliver and support four carrier-based fueling drones, the Navy announced Thursday in a press release.

Boeing formerly had its defense unit headquarters in St. Louis. The aviation and defense company still has substantial operations in the area.

The aircraft, known as the MQ-25A Stringray, will enable the Navy to undertake missions that would otherwise be impossible by enabling longer range and greater persistence, according to the press release.

Lockheed Martin and General Atomics were also vying for the contract.
