AMC Entertainment’s majority owner said to be exploring reduced stake

Dalian Wanda Group, the Chinese conglomerate owned by billionaire Wang Jianlin, is considering a deal to reduce its stake in AMC Entertainment Holdings, Reuters reports, citing people familiar with the matter.

Wanda is exploring a plan that would involve Leawood, Kansas-based AMC, the world’s largest cinema operator, raising cash through a convertible bond and buying back some of the Chinese company’s 60 percent stake.

It’s the latest example of a Chinese conglomerate under pressure from the country’s regulators to reduce overseas holdings after a buying spree in the U.S. and Europe in recent years.

Private equity firms including Silver Lake Partners and Apollo Global Management are said to be talking with AMC about the debt investment, according to Reuters’ sources, who said that no deal is certain.
