St. Ann considering incentives to preserve Save-A-Lot headquarters move

The St. Ann Board of Aldermen is scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss an incentive package designed to keep the headquarters of grocery chain Save-A-Lot in the St. Louis area, a city official said.

Save-A-Lot had planned to move its headquarters from another St. Louis suburb, Earth City, to the Crossings in Northwest, a complex in St. Ann formerly known as the Northwest Plaza. However, that deal hinged on incentives that St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger had asked the St. Louis County Council to approve.

The county council chair withdrew the incentive deal in August amid concerns about the selection process of the site for the new headquarters.

The headquarters has been projected to bring more than 500 jobs — including 64 new hires and 450 retained employees — to St. Ann, and city officials have expressed concerns that the county council’s actions have “severely damaged” St. Ann’s bid for the facility.
