MU Health Care reports progress on acquisitions, increase in annual revenue

University of Missouri Health Care’s negotiations to purchase two mid-Missouri hospitals are “progressing nicely,” the health system’s chief executive reported at a board meeting Monday.

Also at the meeting, MU Health shared financial results for its 2018 fiscal year, reporting revenue of more than $1 billion — up 7.4 percent from 2017 — and operating income of $104 million.

MU Health is in talks to acquire SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital-Jefferson City and SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital-Audrain. The Columbia-based health care system would also take over affiliated operations, including outpatient, home care, hospice and medical group locations.

MU Health CEO Jonathan Curtright said it won’t take any state money to complete the purchases. Prices and completion dates for the deals have not been set.
