In a move that will shake up the supermarket landscape of the St. Louis area, Schnuck Markets Inc. has agreed to acquire 19 Shop ‘n Save locations in the region for an undisclosed price.
Schnucks CEO Todd Schnuck called the deal between the St. Louis-based grocers a “generational transaction.”
As part of the acquisition, Shop ‘n Save’s parent company, Supervalu, will become the primary supplier for nine existing Schnucks stores. Also, Schnucks will acquire four of Shop ‘n Save’s seven fuel centers.
The transition of the stores from Shop ‘n Save to Schnucks is slated to start Oct. 7 and be completed by the end of October.
Shop ‘n Save employees are expected to be offered jobs with Schnucks.
