The medical school at Washington University in St. Louis is buying about 8 acres of land that house the former Universal Printing Co. office and warehouse buildings in the city’s Forest Park Southeast neighborhood.
It’s the second recent land purchase by a Washington University affiliate, following the June acquisition of 1.7 acres by the university’s redevelopment corporation.
Firm plans for the 8 acres are still being determined, according to Joni Westerhouse, associate dean for medical public affairs at the medical school, but she said the purchase will open up “mission critical space” on the school’s nearby medical campus.
The school bought the land from Swan Properties LLC, registered to the former CEO of Universal Printing. David Schlafly of the Schlafly Corp. represented Swan Properties. A purchase price was not disclosed, but Schlafly’s website previously listed the property for $6.95 million.
